Edit Gantt Chart

Information

From DB 39.5.12

  • In PLANTA project, schedules can be edited in tabular view by entering the corresponding fields as well as in graphical view (as Gantt charts). The required functions can be adjusted by customizing.
  • In PLANTA Standard the editing of Gantt charts within the Schedule module is possible. By default, the following editing options are available:
    • Link date bars (create links graphically), change and delete links
    • Change requested date bars (requested dates) graphically

Up to DB 39.5.12

  • In PLANTA project, schedules can be edited in tabular view by entering the corresponding fields as well as in graphical view (as Gantt charts). The required functions can be adjusted by customizing.
  • In PLANTA Standard the editing of Gantt charts within the Schedule module is possible. By default, the following editing options are available:
    • Link date bars (create links graphically), change and delete links
    • Create and change requested date bars (requested dates) graphically.
    • Create and change requested date bars (requested dates) graphically via menu items.
    • Create and change actual date bars (actual dates) via menu items
  • Create and Edit Links Graphically

    Information
    • Links represent dependencies between tasks.

    Create Link

    Procedure

    • Move the mouse pointer to the bar from which a link is to be created (source bar). Instead of the mouse pointer, a cross will be displayed.
    • Set the cross to the beginning or to the end of the source bar depending on which Link type you wish to create (e.g. for the Finish-Start relationship, set the cross to the end of the source bar).
    • Click and hold the left mouse button and drag the mouse to the beginning or to the end of the target bar depending on what link type you wish to create (e.g. for a Finish-Start relationship drag the mouse to the start of the target bar). As a result, a connection line between the two bars will be displayed.
    • As soon as the destination bar is reached, the start position in the source bar and the destination position in the destination bar are marked by yellow arrows.
    • Release the left mouse button. The new link will be created and will be visualized as a connection line.

    Note

    • You can only create links graphically in particular module variants of the Schedule module (e.g. the Base variant).
      • If you try to create a link in module variants in which graphical creating is not allowed, the following message appears: Cannot carry out creation.

    Change Link Type

    Procedure
    • Click on the required link line in the Gantt chart to have it highlighted.
    • Then right-click and select the required link type with the Link type AA/EE/AE/EA context menu command.

    Note

    • You can change links graphically only in particular module variants of the Schedule module (e.g. the Base variant).

    Delete Links

    Procedure
    • Click on the required link line in the Gantt chart to have it highlighted.
    • Then right-click and select the Delete link context menu command.

    Note

    • You can only delete links graphically in particular module variants of the Schedule module (e.g. the Base variant).
      • If you try to delete a link in module variants in which graphical deletion is not allowed, the following message is displayed: Cannot delete in this area

Create and Change Requested Dates Graphically

    Create Requested Dates

    From DB 39.5.12

From DB 39.5.12, this function is no more available in the PLANTA standard.

    Up to DB 39.5.12

    Procedure
    • Click and hold down the left mouse button on the position in the Gantt chart opposite to the required task which you want the Requested start to correspond to and drag the mouse to the right up to the position corresponding to the Requested end.
      • As a result,
        • a dotted line appears, visualizing the time interval between the Requested start and Requested end (bar length).
        • a tooltip is displayed, showing Requested start, Requested end, and task duration figures. In the PLANTA Standard system, the task duration corresponds to the bar length minus weekends and holidays. Via customizing, you can define which parameters are displayed in the Tooltip.
    • Release the mouse button at the position of the requested end date.

    Note

    • You can also create backwards links: from end to start date.

    Move Requested Dates

    Information
    • When moving requested dates, you have the option to
      • move only one of the requested dates and therefore change the length of the bar
      • move both dates at once, i.e. the entire bar without changing its length

Move one of the requested dates (length of the bar changes)

    • Hold the mouse over the margin of the requested start or requested end symbol.
    • Once the mouse pointer becomes an arrow pointing in both directions, left-click and drag the displayed preview bar in the required direction and release the mouse button at the required position.
      • The bar length visualizing the task duration (a time period between Requested start and Requested end) will then be extended or shortened.
Move both requested dates (length of the bar remains the same)
    • Mouse-over on the requested start or the requested end symbol.
    • Once the mouse pointer becomes a hand, left-click on the required symbol and drag the displayed preview bar in the required direction and release the mouse-button at the required position.
      • As a result, the entire bar is moved into the required direction, and the length of the bar remains the same.

    In both cases,

    • a dotted line appears, visualizing the time interval between the Requested start and Requested end (bar length) and
    • a tooltip is displayed, showing the Requested start, Requested end and task duration figures. Which parameters are displayed in the tooltip can be defined by customizing.
      • In the PLANTA Standard system, the task duration displayed in the tooltip corresponds to the bar length minus weekends and holidays.
        • So the task duration can be equal to or deviate from the bar length, depending on how many weekends or holidays are contained in the appropriate time period. As a result, the following behavior can occur:
          • even though a date is shifted, the duration remains the same.
          • even though the bar length remains the same, the duration changes.

Create and Change Requested and Actual Dates via Menu Items

    From DB 39.5.12

From DB 39.5.12, this function is no more available in the PLANTA standard.

    From C 39.5.1

    Information
    • In the schedule, you can create and edit requested and actual dates via the Edit Graphical Editing menu items.
    Procedure
    • Select Edit Graphical Editing Task requested start.
    • For the required task, click on the position in the Gantt chart that corresponds to the Required start date.
      • If there is no Requested start yet, a new one will be created and will be visualized by a blue triangle.
      • If there already is a Requested start, it will be shifted to the required position.
    • Select Edit Graphical Editing Task requested start.
    • Click on the required position in the Gantt chart.
      • A second blue triangle is displayed, visualizing the requested end.
    Details
    • The same procedure applies to actual dates, with the difference that actual dates are visualized by a crossed gray bar. If initially one of the two dates is set first, the bar length is at minimum. As soon as the second date is set, the bar is extended according to the actual duration.

    Up to C 39.5.1

    Information

    • In the schedule, you can create and edit requested and actual dates via the Edit Graphical Editing menu items.
    Procedure
    • Select Edit Graphical Editing Task requested start.
    • For the required task, click on the position in the Gantt chart that corresponds to the Required start date. If

    Note

    • When you set dates graphically, you have to note the following:
      • When you create requested dates, every date (start and end) is immediately visible after it has been created because it is visualized by a triangle symbol.
      • Actual dates are not visible until both dates are set, because they are visualized as a bar.
