Quality Gates MOD009CU6 New from DB 39.5.10
Access path
Information
- The Quality Gates module serves to
- assign quality gates to individual planning objects of the portfolio and
- check the current status of achieved objectives of the existing quality gates in the planning objects of the portfolio.
- Quality Gates are so called controlling elements which serve as a bridge between portfolio management and project management. Having a similar functionality like gates or master milestones of planning objects, quality gates serve to make the project implementation phase more transparent by means of date bound "project stage checks".
Details
- Planning objects for which quality gate templates have already been copied are listed in the Planning objects with quality gates area, those for which no quality gate templates have been copied yet are listed in the Planning objects without quality gates area.
From DB 39.5.15
Note
- Since in PLANTA Standard ideas do not contain schedules, they will not be listed in the Quality Gates module.
New from DB 39.5.13
Note
- Since in PLANTA Standard ideas no longer contain schedules, you cannot use quality gates for ideas.
Assign Quality Gates to Planning Objects
Information
From DB 39.5.11
- Quality gates cannot be included in the planning objects arbitrarily but only via quality gate templates.
- In the quality gate templates, all required quality gates are defined with the respective todo items and dates.
- A quality gate template is selected for each portfolio in the Active template field in the Portfolio Core Data module, which is
- either copied automatically to the required portfolio planning objects as soon as a planning object is assigned to the portfolio. NEW To do so, you have to activate the Copy QG template automatically parameter in the Portfolio Core Data module.
- or can be copied manually. For this purpose, see the procedure below.
- If planning objects are assigned to the portfolio before a quality gate template has been selected or if the selected template has been changed afterwards, the new template must be inserted in the required planning objects manually.
Up to DB 39.5.11

- NEW The dates of the quality gates are then visualized below the scale in the form of rhombs.
- Adjust the dates (requested dates) of the quality gates and todo items if required.
- To see the quality gates in the planning object, click on the Open schedule button. The Schedule of the planning object with the Short version module variant (Base module variant for programs) is opened. Notes
From DB 39.5.11
- If no quality gate template has been defined for the portfolio yet, the following message is displayed when you try to copy in a template: Please select a quality gate template in the Portfolio Core Data first.
- If a planning object has already been assigned to another portfolio, quality gates from the other portfolio which possibly stem from another template than designated by the new portfolio can have already been assigned to this planning object. In this case, consultation between the portfolio managers is necessary. You can only assign one quality gate to a planning object.

Attention
- Since from a technical point of view, quality gates are tasks, the requested end dates calculated for them can influence the project dates. Since the quality gates are automatically copied to the planning object when the planning object is assigned to the portfolio, please check and possibly adjust the dates of the quality gates after you have assigned a planning object to the portfolio.
Delete Quality Gates from Planning Objects
Procedure
- Click on the Delete quality gate template button in the line of the required planning object.
- As a result, the quality gates are deleted from the planning object.
Check Current Status
Procedure
From DB 39.5.11
- Expand the tree structure of the planning object.
- In the Completed field, the automatically calculated degree of completion of the quality gate is displayed by a traffic light color and the percentage specification.
- Below each quality gate, the individual todo items are listed with % completed and the preset date.
- Due to the traffic lights on the Date field, the portfolio manager can quickly recognize whether a todo item was completed on the preset date (traffic light: green) or whether the date has already been exceeded but the todo item has not yet been completed (traffic light: red).
- NEW The same traffic light is also implemented on the Date field on the quality gates, so that you can quickly recognize the adherence to schedule in connection with the degree of completion here.
- If the processing status of a quality gate meets the expectations of the portfolio manager, he/she can activate the checkbox of the Approval field. As a result, the actual end date is set in the Approved on field and the quality gate is considered completed.
